Family therapy is based on the belief that social systems and the relations between family members impact each other and contribute to problems or symptoms in individuals. The symptoms of a child influence parents and parents influence the symptoms of the child. This doesn’t mean that parents cause a child to have problems. It often means how parents respond to their child can make a difference in helping the child to overcome his/her problems. Sometimes the problems in one generation of family members can impact subsequent generations. Problems of alcoholism, child/sexual abuse and suicide often impact successive generations. Dr. Luz is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family with training in social and family system dynamics. Dr. Luz believes that Family Therapy is a most important resource in resolution of problems and the development of family harmony.
